The immediate surroundings are ideal for taking walks. The local "Office Du Tourisme" has laid out various walking routes. Most of these are within walking distance of the castle. The theme park "Le Puy du Fou" which includes a medieval village, an aviary and rose garden, is just 15 km. away. Each evening in the weekends, the park is home to a fousting tournament "le grand spectacle", a story about the history of Vendée during the revolution.

Area

There are many more castles and museums to visit in the area. The coast is approximately 60 km. away, but is rather busy during the summer. A visit to la Rochelle - the Saint Tropez of the Atlantic coast - is definitely worth the effort, as are visits to the islands Ile d'Oleron and Ile de Ré. Addresses of various Emmaïs establishments and antique and bric-à-brac shops are available on request. The Vandée has 2600 hours of sunshine per year and it’s, next to the Côte d’Azur, the second most sunny place in France. Because the castle is situated at 200 m altitude, the evenings in the summer can be deliciously cool.
